    Michael,
Bravo! This is the cutting-edge view that teachers are encouraged to use when dealing with students. I think it is phrased in such a way as there are no disruptive behaviors that exist outside of a particular background or cultural context. Now taken to the extreme this idea means one spends so much time figuring out why the behavior is occurring that one ceases to teach, and the needs of the other students are neglected. However, its greatest immediate use in the classroom is as a tool to de-escalate what might develop into an immediate angry confrontation between the teacher and the student which is equally disruptive to the classroom atmosphere. Bravo, you managed to say elegantly in a few words what it just took mee a whole email to say!!!!!
