informal_homeWho is the healer in your life?  If you’re looking in a mirror, it’s the person staring back at you!  Nothing is more exciting than discovering someone who claims to have the power to heal.  Jesus is a good example.  When almost anyone speaks of Jesus, it’s often in the context of the healing stories of the gospels.  There’s something in the human experience that cries out for wholeness and restoration of health.  And we don’t have to look very far.

As I mention in my web site and blog posts my aim as the Life & Spirit Coach is to facilitate the healing and integration of body mind and spirit, especially for highly sensitive men.  With a view toward literally expanding my reach, I studied and received certification as a Reiki healing practitioner.  I’ve discovered this “hands on” approach to be an extension of my healing ministry.  Through it I can call forth the restorative power of the Spirit that is already within us.  This is a non-religious modality that can be of significant value to almost anyone.  At the very least it offers a deep relaxation of body and mind and the marshalling of life forces for the promotion of physical healing.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”.  So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”  It has been used for centuries as a practice for stress reduction and relaxation.  It is based on the idea that the “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.  If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around the recipient.  Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

There has admittedly been some controversy surrounding Reiki among some western-based religious groups.  This is in part because the Reiki practitioner may call upon unseen forces in the universe to accompany the process.  Some have automatically assumed these unseen forces to be “evil” spirits coming from Satan.  This is a misunderstanding.

In fact Christians believe in God’s infinite love and that it trumps all other spiritual forces.  In other words, unless someone rejects God willfully and decisively, God does not withhold loving protection.  And a lot of people believe in angels who are messengers from God sent to do the work of good and communicate the message of love and hope.  It is these spiritual beings who assist is in the good that we do.

As a man still ordained as a priest I offer through Reiki another dimension of God’s healing love.  For me it’s an extension of the work I used to do with sacraments.  Each of the seven sacraments requires a laying on of hands to call forth the power of the Spirit.  Reiki can be an adjunct to those practices.

There are also some questions concerning Reiki with the empirical science communities.  This is common whenever we’re dealing with non-empirical, spirit-based modalities.  The debate concerning the relationship between physics and metaphysics is ancient.  But with the help of quantum physics both sides have come to a deeper understanding of possible ways to understand this interrelationship.  Quantum physics in fact has enabled many empiricists to conclude that there must be a supreme intelligence in the universe that can explain its complexity and internal logic.

I invite the opportunity to share Reiki practice with anyone interested.  For the next two months I am offering free 45 minute session both to share his modality.  Feel free to contact me at michael@parisecoaching.com .
