A lot of people confuse coaching with various kinds of therapy or counseling.  I recently read a great summary:  “A coach is an active, objective thinking partner who enables the client to achieve future goals by focusing on where they are now and where they would like to be tomorrow.  A client is a mentally healthy person with a desire to change.”

Coaching is unlike therapy in that the coach does not spend a lot of time on the causes of feelings, habits, and present situations, but seeks ways to move beyond them to a resolution of feelings, a change of habits, and a breakthrough from the present situation into the future.  The coach is not trying to heal, but to help rally the resources within the client to find healing in themselves, by tapping into their power.
